The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Johannesburg is seeking to make an appointment of a lecturer in the School of Communication. We are
seeking an exceptionally motivated, qualified, and ambitious aspirant academic to contribute to, and expand, the Faculty’s current teaching and
research interests/specialisations.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute meaningfully to the projects of the department, including administrative duties, and teach in
undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Communication and Media.
Responsibilities:
•Prepare and deliver lectures and/or practical sessions for undergraduate students.
• Prepare/design and mark assignments, tests, and exams.
•Travel between campuses should the need arise.
• Attend departmental and faculty meetings.
•Build a research profile and publish articles in peer-reviewed/accredited journals.
•Supervise postgraduate students.
•Be actively involved and perform any other tasks or activities which fall within the general functioning of the Department of Communication & Media
and Strategic Communication.
•Participate in community engagement initiatives in the Department of Communication & Media, Strategic Communication and within the Faculty.
Minimum requirements
Minimum Requirements: PhD in Communication, Media, Strategic Communication, or commensurate field.
1-2 years theoretical and practical teaching experience at the tertiary level.
Demonstrable research experience.
Recommendations:
Experience in Blackboard (or related E-teaching platform) and blended learning.
Demonstrated ability/experience to work with a multidisciplinary team.
Produced accredited publications (articles or book chapters).
Postgraduate supervisory experience.
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Excellent computer literacy skills.
Strong interpersonal relational skills.
Ability to function well under pressure.
Good planning and organizational skills.
